Advanced Challenge
1. I would start with the 4th Grade Reading Skills Improvement options in the Elementary section of Learning Centers. There are several practice tests for 4th grade reading.

3. There are several e-books that talk about careers. One way to get them is to click on Jobs and Careers, then select Nursing and Allied Health. One of the Career Guidance options is "Becoming a Nurse." There are also practice tests for pharmacy and nursing which might give the student an idea of the things a person in that field should know. The section on Job Search & Workplace Skills might also be helpful.

Common Core Connections

The practice test I took, was fun.  It was a grammer and puncuation test and I did horribly, but it was still fun.

The e-book "Between the Lines" is about Document Based Questions (DBQs) and analyzing primary documents. There are some lessons in the e-book that outline how to write an essay using DBQs. Students would analyze editorial cartoons published durning the Revolutionary War. Then they would write an essay pointing out the central ideas based on details in the cartoons.

The standard is CC11-12RH/SS2 "Determine the central ideas of information of a primary or secondary source; provide an accurate summary that makes clear the relationships among the key details and ideas.
